Water System Flushing Information

This is an important message from the Town of River Bend Water Department. Our staff will begin flushing the water system at 9 pm on Sunday, May 25th. The operators will work only at night to minimize any inconvenience to our customers. The operators expect to complete the process by 6 am on Friday, May 30th. We flush our system regularly to remove natural sediment that has built up in the pipes. If you notice that your water is discolored in the morning, simply let it run for a few minutes and it will clear up. This discoloration is not harmful. You may experience low water pressure if you use water during the time when the system is being flushed.

In order to achieve better results, the State of North Carolina has suggested that we utilize unidirectional flushing. We are going to do that during this flushing. This technique increases the velocity inside the pipe during flushing, in an attempt to increase scouring.

Increased scouring helps remove built up material from inside the pipe. That’s what we want to do. As is the case with regular flushing, the flushed water (and the build-up that is removed with it) will exit through an open fire hydrant. Therefore, it is likely that you will not notice any additional issues in your home than you did during the last regular flushing.

We thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to maintain and improve our system and your water.
