Floodplain Management

Floodplain management and flood damage prevention are key functions of any incorporated municipality. In River Bend this is accomplished through our Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance.

The regulations set forth in that Ordinance are consistently applied by the Zoning Administrator and Floodplain Manager (two of the functions of the Town Manager) and the Assistant Zoning Administrator (AZA) who also is a Certified Floodplain Manager. The AZA is responsible for all aspects of our floodplain management efforts and is the point of contact for citizens, builders, developers and other government regulators.

FEMA - Class 8 Community Rating System

River Bend achieved a Class 8 rating in the Community Rating System.

This is a significant achievement for our Town and for River Bend residents who purchase Flood Insurance policies.

Read a letter from FEMA about what this new rating means to those who hold flood insurance policies.

Read a short essay about the process to obtain this lower rating.

Many thanks to former residents Harry Nelson and George Pfeiffer, community volunteers who dedicated countless hours of service to this project, and to our CRS Coordinator for their hard work in reaching our goal.

For more information about the CRS program or any other aspect of flood damage prevention, contact Allison McCollum at 252.638.3870 x-216.
