River Ben Is Back!

River Bend Mayor John Kirkland welcomes River Ben out of hibernation and to his new home. River Ben was formerly located in Town Commons, near the now removed basketball court. That site is now the home of the River Bend Municipal Building. River Ben was removed from that site prior to commencement of construction to ensure that he was not accidentally damaged.

During his hibernation he was also spruced up. On October 7 he climbed atop his base at his new home. He is now standing proud and tall near the gazebo in the Town’s Memorial Garden close to Town Hall. There is much more pedestrian traffic in this area. At this new location he will be much more accessible and available for photo ops. We look forward to residents and visitors dropping by to see River Ben and possibly posing for a picture. As is always the case, please do not feed the bear.

River Ben was originally brought here by a group of volunteer residents. We again, thank them for their efforts.

There are many decorative bears around New Bern. Click HERE for more information about the history of those bears and their photos. The information at the newbernbears link is not produced by the Town of River Bend and we are not responsible for its content.
