Current Notices:

September 1, 2010, 7:45 a.m. : We encourage all residents to monitor this storm through local media outlets and other reliable
sources. All are also encouraged to check their preparedness plans and supplies.

September 1, 2010, 9:45 a.m. : Town Staff will be installing roadside markers in the Channel Run area to offer guidance to drivers
in that area should water cover the roadways. We will notify affected residents regarding the opening of alternative parking areas
outside of the flood zone.

September 1, 2010, 5:00 p.m. : Town officials will meet with Craven County Emergency Management officials for their first
briefing regarding the potential impact of this storm.

September 2, 2010, 6:00 a.m. : According to the Coastal Environmental Partnership: transfer stations will close at noon,
Thursday, September 2 and re-open at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 3. The Tuscarora Landfill will close at 2:00 p.m. Thursday,
September 2 and re-open at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 3. All three facilities will be open from 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
Saturday, September 4

September 2, 2010, 8:30 a.m. : Town Staff met to finalize preparations for Earl's arrival. We encourage all residents to finalize
their preparations. Be sure that outdoor furniture and other loose items are secured.

September 2, 2010, 9:00 a.m. : Parking for vehicles removed from flood prone areas is available in the gravel parking lot across
from Town Hall. Additional parking, coordinated by the River Bend Police Department, is available on Town Commons field.
Please do not drive on or over the Walking Trail except at the designated location. Now is the time to move vehicles in order to
avoid being pressed for time and to avoid the need to drive on flooded roadways.

September 2, 2010, 9:30 a.m. : Here is the text of a call Mayor Kirkland placed to all residents using our Emergency Notification
System:
        
This is Mayor John Kirkland calling with information regarding Hurricane Earl. We urge all residents to be prepared for high winds
and rain throughout Town, and flooding in low lying areas. In preparation for the potential for flooding, residents in low lying areas may
begin parking their cars in the gravel parking lot across from Town Hall and, as directed by the Town Police, on the Town Commons Park
to prevent them from flooding. Residents wishing to bring cars to the Town Commons park area between now and 5 pm who need a shuttle
home can come to Town Hall. It is strongly recommended that no one move vehicles on flooded streets after dark.

September 2, 2010, 11:00 a.m. : The regular monthly Planning Board meeting, scheduled for this evening, has been postponed
until Tuesday, September 14th at 7:00 p.m.

September 2, 2010, 11:40 a.m. : Craven County has issued a State of Emergency. Click  HERE for important information from
the County.

September 2, 2010, 1:00 p.m. : The gravel parking lot is full. Please enter the field at the defined entrance near the police station
and cross the walking path only at this designated crossing. For more parking information, contact the River Bend Police at
638-1108.

September 3, 2010, 6:00 a.m. : The storm treated us as predicted. We had some rain and some wind, but the police report no
road closures or over-wash, no large limbs down in roadways, and no other storm-related problems for Town infrastructure. We
appreciate all those who took proactive steps to protect their properties and vehicles.
