Parks & Recreation

The Town of River Bend has several recreational
amenities for the enjoyment of residents of all ages.

  • Two playgrounds, one near Town Hall, and the other
    in the Springdale subdivision.
  • A skateboard park near Town Hall
  • A basketball court on Town Commons
  • A volleyball court on Town Commons
  • Two large “recreation” fields – Town Commons and
Ritter Field - includes a walking trail and fitness trail.
  • A smaller “recreation” field in the Starboard Drive
    Park

We also have a small picnic shelter (with restrooms) and
gazebo in Town Hall Park, and two docks overlooking
Town Hall pond.

Our Dog Park is located in Ritter Field for the recreational
enjoyment of our four legged friends.

Of course, there are also numerous natural areas to enjoy
as you walk our quiet residential streets.

For those who desire more organized activities, there is
the privately owned River Bend Country Club featuring a
top-notch 18-hole public golf course that meanders
through some of our residential neighborhoods. This
course was the winner of the New Bern Sun Journal’s
award for being “Simply the Best Golf Course in New
Bern” in 2006, 2007 and 2008.

You may also wish to launch your boat into the Plantation
Canal at the privately owned River Bend Marina. Cruising
out the Town maintained canal will take you to the scenic
Trent River, from there to the Neuse River, then the
Pamlico Sound, and all the way to the Intracoastal
Waterway and Atlantic Ocean.

Walking Trail

The Town of River Bend
recently completed
construction of a Walking

and Ritter Field. This trail,
funded in part by a North

Fit - Trail

Using a grant from Craven
County, we were able to
purchase and install a
series of fitness stations on
our walking trail on Town
Commons and Ritter Field.
With a total distance of just
over 1/3 of a mile, this trail
now combines 10 stations
to improve your flexibility
and strength.

The Fit Trail begins at the
trail entrance from the
parking lot next to the
caboose and proceeds in a
clockwise direction around
Town Commons and Ritter
Field and ends back at the
starting point. There are
signs at the starting point
that explain the use of the
trail, and signs at each
station to guide your use of
them.
